I wasn’t totally paying attention, but then it happened…I turned 31.  Holy cow, where did the time go?

Shawn and I are going to celebrate it next weekend by going to the zoo.  We’re also going to have St. Patrick’s Day dinner at my brother’s house and I am going to possibly dive into a Carvel Cake (old school!)

I also found this really cool infographic about the Aquamarine birthstone, so I thought I’d share it with you.  Have a great weekend everyone!  I sure will 🙂

Woohoo! I am on time today! I just got back from cheering on a few people at the San Diego Half Marathon. This picture is just before the six mile mark and was also called the “Military Appreciation Mile” as it was passing through the Naval Training Center (aka NTC Liberty Station) in Point Loma. It was a gorgeous day to be running a race so good job everyone!!

The roundup is very food and costco oriented this week, so enjoy!

  • I have a pretty massive obsession with spaghetti squash and I’m definitely going to try this next time!
  • Loaded baked potato dip…drooool.
  • Samoas are not really my favorite girl scout cookie (forever a thin mints girl), but these samoa bundt cakes look amazing.
  • On the wedding front, I’ve been noticing how much I love Costco more and more.  They have deals with Wedding Paper Divas (where I ordered both my save-the-dates and thank you cards), and with this Photo Book publisher called MyPublisher, where I created and ordered a guest book last night (keeping fingers crossed that it comes out nicely).  To see what they offer, check out the photo center here.
  • P.S. I am almost done with my invites.  They are of the DIY variety, but are pretty cool and I can’t wait to send them out!

Wedding Post 3 of Who Knows

It’s been a while since I had something to say dedicated to wedding planning.  Despite the mostly “easy-ness” of this, there have been some random bumps in the road too.  I found that details I had decided on months and months ago are suddenly either less feasible or no longer appealing and then I start stalking browsing Pinterest just to figure out something new.  After that, I start wondering if I want to go the DIY route or pay someone to do it.  It is really nuts what one can do to their own brain.  One example was centerpieces…

Holy cow, I did not think I’d be all wishy washy about centerpieces, and then I thought of about 40 different ideas.  I have been all over the mason jar trend, the succulents trend, the wine/beer bottles trend, the dying jars with modge podge trend.  Nothing was holding me long enough to actually execute it.  Thankfully, I have recently been brought back to Earth by a store that I had no idea I’d even buy from…Z Gallerie!  I found these babies and they’re simple, yet elegant enough to start off the centerpiece planning (and our wedding color!)

So now we’re off to a good start.  I am really excited and can’t wait to start pairing it with the rest of the ideas I have for it!

Another example is favors.  What is an appropriate favor?  I have seen lots of amazing favors at friend’s weddings, Pinterest, blogs…what the heck am I going to pick?  My initial idea was chocolate…but then after some time, I realized that I will be having a wedding in San Diego in July…chocolate cannot possibly be an option at that time.  So…back to the drawing board!

And yet ANOTHER example is probably going to be one of the most difficult…scripting the ceremony.  This is less of a wishy-washy debacle as it is more of a “I have to agree with Shawn” debacle 🙂  We are having my big sister marry us and now we must plan the ceremony so she knows what to do.  I have been Googling “planning your ceremony” and there are a lot of fantastic ideas and options.  Wrangling them all into a 15ish minute ceremony, complete is 85% wording planned is going to be a tough one.

But…with that said, I recognize that this is all part of the planning process.  I am not alone.  I have tons of help and support.  These are such little things that can be overcome.  I’m looking forward to finishing this all and celebrating the big day.  Some items I am excited to check off my list – save-the-dates, rehearsal dinner plans, registry, wedding hotel, invitation assembling, catering menu, that is a lot to be proud of!

Have you ever frantically changed your mind on the details of your wedding?  How did you bring yourself back to reality?  (I’m thinking yoga is in my future…namaste).

Dangit, I was so close, but then I got sidetracked!  Better late than never?

Last week, I went hiking with my team at work at Torrey Pines State Park and one of these hiking trails leads to the beach! In my opinion, that is the best place to end up after a long hike…even though we had to hike back to the cars.

I have been bogged down with a few items so I hope to be better again with the blogging! Wedding plans are chugging along, I will write a new post just for that 🙂  My birthday is also coming up…I was starting to forget I even had a birthday with all this wedding business happening. I will be hitting the big 3-1. I’m not mature enough to be 31, but oh well, what must come, will come.

Here is my mini-roundup (better late than never!):

  • This is the coolest wedding I have ever seen.   There are Napolean Dynamite references!!  People in Austin really know how to have fun.
  • I am loving all this wall art.  It is insanely tempting because we really need to beef up our wall art too.  Shawn and I have drastically different ideas in art, which makes it difficult.
  • Oh Joy! was right, this is a pretty amazing image.
  • Mountain biking…on one wheel…holy crap.
  • I want to steal this idea for my household too!

Hooray!  Our engagement photos came in a couple weeks ago, but because of the half-marathon, I did not have time to post them. Above is from Sunset Cliffs in the Ocean Beach area of SD.  We also took some pics in Balboa Park near downtown.  Here are some of my favorites for you!  (Major Kudos goes to our photographers from Narrative Images).  Hope this counts as a roundup for you because I still don’t have that ready yet.  I swear, next week!

Also, happy new year (of the snake!) to those of you celebrating Chinese/Lunar New Year!  I got a red envelope from my parents this week and promptly spent it on a dim sum meal 🙂  I also got this cute video sent to me.  Enjoy!

As you read this, I will be in the process of trying to complete my 4th half marathon. This year

, it is the Surf City half marathon in Huntington Beach.  The above picture is the beach where the race will be held (taken yesterday at the expo).  Not sure how it will turn out because I didn’t train very well and spent most of last week sick, but I will still try!

I have been remiss in my roundups, but I promise to be better soon!  Enjoy your Superbowl Sunday everyone!!

Sorry everyone!  I have been remiss in my blogging.  I caught that crazy cold that has been going around.  I prefer to blame Shawn since he was sick twice in the last month and I guess it finally hit me.  All this congestion makes blog posts hard to write.  I will leave you with the above picture outside the Admiral Kidd Club in Point Loma, where Shawn’s cousin got married at right after the holidays.  Beautiful!!!

Talk to you when I am better!  (Cough cough whheeezzzeeee)

Happy New Year everyone!  Above is Sunset Cliffs in Ocean Beach.  Shawn and I were able to get our Engagement photos done and I was snapping a quick shot from the car as we were leaving.  I am so excited to have that done since we were rained out last month (plus all the holiday travel).  Can’t wait to show you once we get them!

This post is more of a recap vs a roundup since it’s been a while.  Shawn and I had a pretty good holiday season.  For the first time ever, we managed to see both his and my family.  We celebrated Christmas day with Shawn’s family in LA, and then flew back to Virginia to spend a late Christmas with my family.  Shawn did unfortunately get sick so his first day at my family’s house was spent sleeping and on cold medicine, but he got much better by the following day.  Our late Christmas got some morning snow that melted by that afternoon, but still gave us a “White Christmas” effect.  It was a little sad that we did not have Tilly with us this year, but she was still with us in spirit.

To follow that up, my sister/matron of honor threw me a bridal shower.  It was low-key, but fun and exciting because I didn’t think I would even have one during this planning process (too many people live EVERYWHERE).  Since we decided to honeymoon in Kauai, my sister threw a luau themed shower.  My favorite part (aside from seeing all my East Coast friends) were these cute treats my sister put together.

Besides having a relaxing New Year’s celebration with my parents watching Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve (with Ryan Seacrest), we managed to do a little tourism in DC.  We saw the Library of Congress, the Capitol, the Christmas Trees in DC, and the Newseum.   History overload, but we had a great time.

It was sad to come back and go back to work, I was loving vacation!  Oh well, now we’re back to the grindstone and getting the apartment back in order (although that is not as quick as we thought it would be).  I hope everyone else had a terrific holiday!  Any stories you want to share?

Happy Holidays!  Here is a view from our recent drive to LA.  I don’t have much to share, but just wanted to wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a happy New Year.  Oh, maybe one thing to share…an updated picture of my Christmas nook now that we have some cards now.

See you in the new year!
